ABB Powers Singapore’s First Floating LNG Terminal with Advanced Automation

ABB has secured a significant contract to equip Singapore’s first floating LNG terminal with an advanced electrical system. This collaboration with Hanwha Ocean focuses on the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), a critical component of Singapore’s energy infrastructure. The system includes:

• Medium-voltage generator

• 6.6 kilovolt switchboards for managing cargo and regasification

• Motor, transformer, and drive for the propulsion system

This contract underscores ABB’s expertise in marine technology and the future of energy infrastructure.

Integrating Industrial Automation and Control Systems

Beyond providing electrical solutions, the project integrates sophisticated industrial automation and control systems. The FSRU will feature:

• Remote control

• Diagnostics capabilities for proactive maintenance

• Distributed Control System (DCS)

Strategic Expansion for Singapore's Energy Security

Owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), the FSRU has a substantial capacity of 200,000 cubic meters and is scheduled for delivery in 2027. The unit will be leased by Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (Singapore LNG) on a long-term charter, increasing the nation's LNG import capacity by 50%. This expansion will strengthen Singapore’s energy security by diversifying and enhancing its LNG supply.
