Overview

Analog Output (AO) modules receive output signals from the Main Processor module on each of three channels. Each set of data is voted upon, and a healthy channel is selected to drive the outputs. The modules monitor their own current outputs (as input voltages) and maintain an internal voltage reference for self-calibration and module health information.

Key Features

• Current Loopback Circuit:

  • Verifies the accuracy and presence of analog signals independently of load presence or channel selection.
  • Prevents non-selected channels from driving analog signals to the field.

• Diagnostics:

  • Ongoing diagnostics on each channel and circuit.
  • Failure in any diagnostic test deactivates the faulty channel, activates the Fault indicator, and triggers the chassis alarm.
  • Fault indicator signifies a channel fault, not a module failure.
  • The module continues to operate properly with up to two channel failures.

• Open Loop Detection:

  • Indicated by a LOAD indicator, which activates if the module cannot drive current to one or more outputs.

• Redundant Loop Power Sources:

  • Features individual power and fuse indicators (PWR1 and PWR2).
  • External loop power supplies for analog outputs must be provided by the user.
  • PWR1 and PWR2 indicators activate if loop power is present.

• Hot-Spare Capability:

  • Supports online replacement of a faulty module.

• Installation and Compatibility

  • Requires a separate External Termination Panel (ETP) with a cable interface to the Tricon backplane.
  • Mechanically keyed to prevent improper installation in a configured chassis.

• Model 3805H:

  • Modified to support increased inductive loads.

• Model 3806E:

  • Optimized for turbomachinery control.
  • Features two 20 to 320 mA outputs to drive servo actuators.

• Model 3807:

  • Also optimized for turbomachinery control.
  • BiPolar AO module with four -60 to +60 mA outputs to drive servo coils in servo-control applications.
  • Termination panel includes four hard-wired coil diagnostic inputs.
  • Designed for control applications only and should not be used in safety applications.
