Technical Overview
The ADV157 is a high-speed digital input module for the Yokogawa FIO system, engineered to capture rapid discrete signals that standard I/O modules cannot detect. With 16 channels, it supports high-frequency pulse counting and pulse-width measurement up to 1 MHz, enabling real-time monitoring and precise synchronization in high-speed automation applications.
The module features dual-redundant support and full galvanic isolation, ensuring system integrity in critical process environments.

Primary Applications
The ADV157 is ideal for microsecond-level discrete monitoring, including:
-
Flow Metering: High-frequency pulses from turbine or magnetic flow meters for precise volumetric calculations.
-
Speed Sensing: Monitoring motor or turbine RPM using magnetic pickups or encoders.
-
Pulse-Width Measurement: Measuring mechanical timing, such as valve travel times or actuator response speeds.
-
Redundant Counting: Critical totalizing and safety-related discrete logic applications.
Engineering FAQ
Why are empty slots required during installation?
High-speed processing at 1 MHz consumes significant power (730 mA) and generates concentrated heat. Empty adjacent slots provide convective cooling to prevent thermal stress and ensure module longevity.
Can the ADV157 handle 110 V AC signals?
No. The module is designed for low-voltage DC (5–24 V). Connecting AC line voltage will permanently damage the high-speed input circuitry. For AC signals, use an AC input module (e.g., ADV141), but note it does not support high-speed pulse counting.
What happens when the 32-bit counter reaches 999,999,999?
Upon reaching its maximum, the behavior depends on system software configuration—typically resetting to zero or triggering an overflow flag. This allows long-term totalizing without loss of precision.
